Liverpool handed Milner boost ahead of Watford clash
James Milner looks set to return to the Liverpool side for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Watford at Anfield.
The Reds vice-captain missed last Saturday’s 4-2 win at Crystal Palace after being struck down by a virus.
Milner was desperate to feature at Selhurst Park but club medical staff decided it was best that he didn’t travel with Jurgen Klopp’s squad to the capital.
In his absence, Alberto Moreno earned a first Premier League start since the opening weekend of the season. The Spaniard impressed going forward as he created the opening goal for Emre Can.
Milner has now recovered from illness and will be back in full training as Klopp’s players reconvene at Melwood on Tuesday after two days off to begin their preparations for the visit of Watford.
Klopp insisted he was happy with Moreno’s performance against Palace, saying: “There was never a doubt about Alberto.
“He is a young player and needs to learn a lot of things. Sometimes he’s a little bit too passionate in defending. But he is still young and can learn things.
“You see he is quick, has a good left foot, a good attitude and runs up and down. It’s nice for a manager to work with boys like this.”
However, with Milner back available, Moreno is likely to drop to the bench this weekend. Milner had been in excellent form prior to his enforced absence - adjusting expertly to the demands of playing left-back.
