Steven Gerrard is reportedly in advanced talks with Liverpool about working with the club's academy.

It was confirmed yesterday that the 36-year-old would be leaving MLS side LA Galaxy with his contract due to expire at the end of the year.

Gerrard revealed he had a number of options available to him on and off the pitch.

But it appears his future could be back at Liverpool and in a coaching position.

According to Goal.com, former Reds captain Gerrard has been speaking with the club about working alongside Academy director Alex Inglethorpe.

It is claimed Gerrard wants a meaningful role at Liverpool rather than just a symbolic gesture.

Gerrard is understood to be keen to make a 'substantial contribution' for the club he played 710 times for.

Celtic have been linked with a move for Gerrard, which would see him reunite with former boss Brendan Rodgers and team-mate Kolo Toure.
