Quincy Promes lifts the lid on Liverpool rumours
Dutch international winger Quincy Promes has lifted the lid on the truth behind a rumoured move to Liverpool this month.
Speaking in Sport Express, the 25-year-old insists that he never thought of making a January switch to Anfield despite being a close pal of Reds midfielder Gini Wijnaldum.
Jurgen Klopp is believed to be on the look out for another option out wide and with Christian Pulisic seemingly off limits after penning a new deal at the Liverpool manager's former club Borussia Dortmund, the German was reported to be weighing up Promes as a potential alternative.
The tricky wide man, who joined his current club Spartak Moscow for €11million from Twente in 2014, claims not to have considered a transfer to the Reds.
He said: “I never thought about other clubs. Never.
“Some things were said, but I do not know about that.
“I just know that I play for Spartak, and people who really know me understand this.”
Promes admits that his friend Wijnaldum would love to play alongside him in Merseyside but that's not enough to turn his head.
He said: “Yes, he says he wants me [at Liverpool], because he likes me as a player.
“That’s what he said. I talked with him, of course. But it wasn’t about Liverpool. We’re just friends.
“I repeat: everyone who knows me understands what I think, and fans of Spartak know and remember what I said.
“So I do not understand why this issue is discussed at all.”
