Liverpool on Oxlade-Chamberlain alert
Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is nearing an exit from the club after talks over a new contract broke down, with the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool eyeing a transfer.
Sources close to the England international are giving the signal that an agreement is now looking highly unlikely, despite the player heading out to Sydney for the club’s pre-season tour.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has been at Arsenal since 2011, scoring 20 goals in 194 appearances for the Gunners, with last season one of his most consistent since he joined the club.
This has put the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City on alert this summer as the 23-year-old has only a year remaining on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium.
According to Sky Sports, while Arsenal are confident of keeping hold of Oxlade-Chamberlain, it now looks increasingly likely that he’ll leave north London in this transfer window.
This would be another major blow to Arsene Wenger, who also faces a fight to keep Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, who are both also set to be free agents in a year’s time.
There has also been talk that Olivier Giroud could look to leave with the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette adding even more competition up front, while doubts linger over the future of loaned-out players such as Jack Wilshere and Wojciech Szczesny.
Oxlade-Chamberlain can play as a wide-forward, central midfield and even wing-back and would be a huge loss to Arsenal, particularly if he were to end up at one of their main title rivals.
