Arsenal ace rejects Chelsea for Anfield move
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has turned down a move to Chelsea in the hope of moving to Liverpool, according to reports.
The England international looks set to leave the Emirates in the final hours of the transfer window.
Chelsea looked as though they had won the race for his signature after agreeing a £35m fee with Arsenal.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has made it clear he will not sign a new contract at Arsenal with just 12 months left on his current deal.
And the Gunners want a deal completed as quickly as possible to bring in funds so they can reinvest in the squad.
But, according to BBC Sport, Oxlade-Chamberlain has turned down a move to Stamford Bridge.
The report claims Oxlade-Chamberlain believes Chelsea want to utilise him in the wing-back positions.
But that’s where he has been deployed at Arsenal this season and he wants to prove himself as a central midfielder.
And the 24-year-old reportedly believes he would have a better chance of playing in the centre of midfield at Anfield.
The news will come as a huge blow to Antonio Conte who is desperate to bolster his squad before the window closes tomorrow.
Liverpool meanwhile did sign a central midfielder on Monday in Naby Keita, although he will not join Jurgen Klopp’s side until next summer.
