Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been linked with a number of signings from the Bundesliga since taking charge at Anfield.
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz was reportedly on the Reds’ radar in the summer, along with his team-mate Benjamin Henrichs.
And according to website Football Whispers, the Reds invited Havertz to their Melwood training facility last month.
The 18-year-old is said to have been given the red-carpet treatment and met with Klopp, Philippe Coutinho and club legend Steven Gerrard.
Havertz signed a new five-year deal with Leverkusen over the summer but it said to have been agreed merely to boost his return when sold.
The Bundesliga side are said to have granted the teenager permission to meet with Liverpool and appear open to doing business.
The Reds’ approach for Havertz is thought to be part of a wider recruitment drive of younger players which is being led by Klopp.
And the Anfield club are also said to be running the rule over 17-year-old Fortuna Sittard centre-half Per Schurrs.
Despite Havertz’s tender age, he is already a regular for Leverkusen and would expect to slot straight into Liverpool’s first team.
The teenager made 24 Bundesliga appearances last term, scoring four goals and providing six assists.
And he has started this campaign in a similar vein, turning out 10 times in all competitions for the German side.
His current deal at the BAY Arena runs until June 2022.
