Liverpool 'in talks' over transfer for James Rodriguez
Liverpool are interesting in signing Real Madrid's James Rodriguez in a permanent deal this summer according to reports in Spain.
Don Balon claim that the Reds are among a number of clubs tracking the Colombian star and have entered into talks with his agent as they search for a replacement for Philippe Coutinho who departed Anfield this month for Barcelona.
However, with Rodriguez currently midway through his first season at Bayern Munich having agreed a two-year loan switch to the Bundesliga club last summer, Liverpool could be thwarted in their hopes of landing the player if the Bavarians refuse to send him back early to the Spanish capital.
The playmaker has turned out 20 times so far this term for Bayern and has scored goals but ironically could find the competition for places in midfielder increased in 2018-19 if they land Schalke's Leon Goretzka whose contract expires this summer and is also a Reds transfer target.
Real are keen to retrieve most of the £70million they paid Monaco for Rodriguez's services for after his exploits in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Given that Liverpool are supposedly looking for a summer signing they still have around six months to try and negotiate a deal with both the South American's parent club and his temporary employers.
