Liverpool ready move for Shaqiri after World Cup
Liverpool will step up their efforts to land Xherdan Shaqiri when he returns from the World Cup, after receiving initial encouragement.
But the Stoke forward is NOT an alternative to Nabil Fekir.
Shaqiri is keen on an Anfield switch, and a deal now looks possible if Stoke are willing to let him go close to the figure the Reds understand is contained in a break clause in his contract.
There is some confusion over that figure, with initial suggestions pinning the sum at around £12million after his club were relegated.
Liverpool wouldn't pay much beyond that price, with boss Jurgen Klopp not seeing him as a marquee signings, but a quality alternative to his front three, the 26 year old offering the pace and eye for goal to provide more strength in depth.
The Reds will take a step back from the transfer market over the next few weeks as the World Cup gets underway, but Shaqiri is possible once his country Switzerland exit the competition.
Fekir remains a possibility too – despite suggestions the transfer is stone dead.
