Liverpool and Arsenal make contact with Brazil star
Liverpool and Arsenal made enquiries about Shakhtar Donetsk forward Bernard but have yet to firm up their interest, reports say.
Bernard left Shakhtar at the end of his contract and is in talks with several clubs. West Ham and Chinese side Jiangsu Suning have approached Bernard with offers, but the winger is torn whether to make a decision or wait for further opportunities.
Brazil outlet Esporte claim Arsenal and Liverpool made contact with Bernard’s team earlier this summer, but have failed to return with a concrete offer.
Bernard is unsure whether to wait and see if the Premier League duo reestablish contact or whether to begin serious talks with West Ham. The 25-year-old’s agent is constant contact with the player’s suitors, but Bernard is disappointed so far with the offers that have come in.
West Ham believe Bernard would be a stellar addition to their side as they look to build on what was another relegation-battling season.
Bernard is not involved with the Brazil squad at the World Cup and has seen his reputation drop off in the last eight months.
Jiangsu Suning already have two Brazilians in their side, Ramires and Alex Teixeira, which could make them an attractive option for Bernard who would earn more in China.
Bernard refused to pen a new deal with Shakhtar, but still scored ten goals and provided four assists in 29 appearances last season as the Russians won the league for the second year in a row.
