Liverpool consider Nicolo Barella bid
Liverpool are considering a late bid to sign Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella who is on manager Jürgen Klopp’s wishlist, according to reports.
The Reds have splashed the cash so far this summer bringing in Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson but reports from Italy claim Liverpool are not finished in the transfer market just yet.
Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Klopp is a long-time fan of the Italian midfielder and has been following his progress recently amid suggestions that Cagliari may be ready to cash in on him.
“[Cagliari] has understood that it may be the right year to sell him,” Gazzetta dello Sport’s Francesco Velluzzi told RMC Sport.
“He was very professional, even if he has not opened his mouth so far, it means that he wants to understand how the situation will be defined.
“Inter [Milan] currently does not have an urgent need to try to buy Barella, unless they sell [Matias] Vecino.
“There is also Roma at stake, there are also Lyon, Liverpool and perhaps Atletico Madrid.”
The 21-year-old drew plenty of attention in Serie A as he played an integral part in keeping Cagliari in Serie A amid the threat of relegation.
The report also claims that Inter and Roma are tracking Barella’s progress, while Lyon and Atletico Madrid may also be interested in a deal if he were to be put up for sale.
Liverpool are by no means desperate to add numbers to their squad following a successful summer in the market but would sanction a move if they feel they are getting the Italy U21 international for a low fee.
Klopp has said he does not ‘plan’ to make a fifth signing in the summer window but did admit that stance could change if the right deal presented itself.
