Liverpool set to bolster goalkeeping ranks further
Jurgen Klopp is set to add to his Liverpool backroom staff with the appointment of goalkeeping coach Jack Robinson.
The Reds are in talks to secure the services of Robinson, who currently works for the Football Association as national goalkeeping coach for the U15s to U17s.
Long-serving Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has been heavily involved in the recruitment of Robinson, who would effectively be his assistant.
With Achterberg working closely with senior keepers Alisson Becker and Simon Mignolet, Robinson's focus will be on helping to develop highly-rated youngsters Kamil Grabara and Caoimhin Kelleher at Melwood.
Robinson, who was part of the England U17s set-up that won the World Cup last year, spent seven years at Manchester United where he coached the likes of David de Gea and Edwin van der Sar.
He boasts the UEFA Goalkeeper A Licence and has also previously worked for Crystal Palace and Leeds United.
Achterberg has been Liverpool's first-team goalkeeping coach since 2011 and Klopp recently reaffirmed his faith in the Dutchman following the £65million signing of Alisson and the exit of Loris Karius to Besiktas.
Klopp told the ECHO: "John is a goalkeeper maniac. He's working constantly.
"He's the first in the building and the last to leave. No matter how early I get into Melwood, I get up the stairs and he's already there - sat there with the laptop open watching goalkeepers from the other end of the world.
"He's constantly in there developing, changing training programmes, working with the boys. For me, he's a fantastic goalkeeper coach. There's not any reason for criticism. He's also a fantastic lad.”
