Liverpool have made contact with Brescia owner Massimo Cellino regarding rising star Sandro Tonali.

Liverpool are in for a quiet end to the January transfer window with Jurgen Klopp content with the league-leading squad he has at his disposal.

But that does not mean Michael Edwards and co. are not hard at work seeking out potential options to help them going forward.

Liverpool have been credited with interest in Timo Werner, Nabil Fekir and James Tarkowski - all of whom could slot straight into Klopp’s senior setup.

However, it seems the Reds are also looking further into the future with Brescia and Italy Under-19 midfielder Tonali on their radar as well.

Cellino, who used to own Leeds United, has now confirmed Liverpool have been in touch regarding Tonali.

Although it seems Klopp faces a battle with Eusebio Di Fransesco for the 18-year-old.

"Yes, Roma asked me for Tonali," Cellino told Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport. "But I have to keep him as long as possible.

"Is he ready? I do not know, he's 18 years old. But a little while ago, Liverpool also contacted me."
