Thorgan Hazard linked to Liverpool by club sporting director
Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl has spoken about the future of Thorgan Hazard and linked the playmaker with Liverpool.
The Reds have been heavily linked with the Belgium international, who is the brother of Chelsea star Eden Hazard, but look set to be in for a fight to secure his services with Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid both interested according to Eberl.
Gladbach were keen to keep the 26-year-old, who has scored 11 goals and provided 12 assists this season, but it appears they have little choice but to accept a departure as Hazard turned down a contract offer from the club and his current deal is due to expire at the end of next season.
"Thorgan has informed us that he doesn't want to extend his contract and that he wants to leave the club in the summer to take the next step. I've heard this statement 15 times in the last 10 years as really great players have left us. That's the way it is for us," Gladbach boss Max Eberl told Sky Germany.
"We'll have to see where his path will continue. I don't know whether it will be at BVB, who are constantly being mentioned, or at Atlético Madrid, Liverpool or another club."
Gladbach paid €8 million to sign the Belgian international from Chelsea in 2015. He's expected to cost around €40 million this summer.
"Interested parties have to offer us a transfer fee that recognises his worth as an exceptional Bundesliga forward and a regular feature in one of the best national teams in the world," Eberl recently the club’s official website.
