Liverpool join race for £20million Russian rising star
Liverpool have joined the race for £20million Russian rising-star Fedor Chalov.
But they have fellow Premier League big-hitters Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United for company, with the CSKA Moscow striker on the radar of many of Europe's top clubs.
The 21-year-old is being tipped as Russian football's star of the future with a goal record and lethal finishing ability that is attracting Germany's leading clubs Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, as well as French side Monaco and Sevilla of Spain.
Arsenal are keen to snap Chalov up after he scored against them in a losing effort in the 2017-18 Europa League quarter-finals, and he boosted his fan club with a goal against Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage last December.
Chalov, who has been at CSKA since he was eight, finished last season as the Russian Premier League's top scorer on 15 goals – two ahead of Zenit St Petersburg's Sardar Azmoun.
He also weighed in with seven assists to enhance his growing reputation as an attacker who can score and make goals with his eye for a pass, smart decoy runs and awareness of space.
Chalov signed an improved deal in January that runs until June 2022 – but the talented striker is already a hot-property with clubs circling.
Having parted company with Daniel Sturridge, Kop boss Jurgen Klopp is on the look out for another striker.
But Chalov, with 27 goals in 65 League games for CSKA is looking for game time – not a bit part role.
And that could be a problem for Liverpool with Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino unmoveable in the Anfield forward line after leading the club to a sixth European Cup and a second-place Premier League finish, one point adrift of champions Manchester City, last season.
