Takumi Minamino having Liverpool medical
Takumi Minamino will undergo a medical on Wednesday as he edges nearer a move to Liverpool.
The European champions have agreed to trigger a £7.25million release in the player's Red Bull Salzburg contract to bring him to Anfield in the New Year.
If no issues are discovered, the 24-year-old attacker is then expected to complete his move when the transfer window opens on January 1.
The first game in which the Japan international could play would be the FA Cup third round tie at home to Everton on January 5.
Minamino shot to prominence among Liverpool supporters with his performances against the Reds in the Champions League group stage.
He scored in Salzburg's 4-3 defeat at Anfield and was the Austrians' star performer in the reverse fixture earlier this month, which Jurgen Klopp's side won 2-0 to progress.
Several Liverpool players urged the Reds to consider buying the player, only to discover the forward – who has nine goals in 22 appearances this season for Salzburg – has long been on Klopp's radar.
Minamino is not be cup-tied for the Champions League knockout stages and would therefore be available to feature against Atletico Madrid in the round of 16 should his transfer be completed.
