Anfield's Shankly Gates were placed into safe storage on Tuesday morning in order to allow progress to continue on the expansion of the stadium's Main Stand - and our photographers were on hand to get these snaps of the latest stage of the development.

Erected in honour of the iconic Bill Shankly, the gates on Anfield Road were first unlocked by his wife, Nessie, on August 26, 1982 - 11 months after the Scot sadly passed away.

The temporary moving of the gates allows construction work, which began earlier this year and will add around 8,500 seats to the ground, to continue on the site.
