Liverpool FC has today confirmed plans to return the iconic Shankly Gates to Anfield Road.

The club has submitted a planning application which applies for consent to permanently install the gates at the Anfield Road entrance to the Centenary Stand.

Liverpool FC operations director Andrew Parkinson said: "We have given great consideration to the Shankly Gates, working closely with the family to find a fitting location that enables them to continue to welcome fans into Anfield Stadium for many more years to come."

The gates were placed in safe storage in February 2015 to enable progress to continue on the expansion of the Main Stand.

The planning application is expected to be considered by Liverpool City Council planning committee later this year.
