Bill Shankly's role in turning Anfield into a fortress can never be overstated.
Upon arriving at Liverpool, the Scot set about revolutionising the facilities at what was a dilapidated ground, as well as building a team worthy of inspiring the fervent support that has gone on to become synonymous with the club.
And one quote in particular perhaps best sums up what he built.
"Anfield isn’t a football ground, it’s a sort of shrine. These people are not simply fans, they’re more like members of one extended family."
