Liverpool's triple bill of training on Friday was an important use of the team's time in Germany, Jürgen Klopp explained at the end of a tough day for all involved.

The Reds kicked off their schedule with a running session at the Rottach-Egern base, returned in the afternoon for a workout amid heavy rain, and then once more that evening for set-piece routines.

When the third stage – which was open for local supporters to attend and watch – was finished, the manager discussed the importance of a demanding diary.

“It was not the easiest day for the boys, especially in this part of the season, but as we’ve said before, we have to use the opportunities,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com.

“Today was a day when we could do it – there are a lot of days coming up where we can do it, so we are happy.

“We could finish the runs at eight o’clock, at 11 o’clock we had a very important session and we left out a few of the boys – the younger lads – which is what we will do tomorrow also. We have to think a little bit about how we can deal with the intensity for them.

“This afternoon, we did set-pieces in an open session. It was a nice day, even the weather is getting better. I really enjoyed it a lot. Yesterday, I enjoyed the two sessions.

“It was really cool and important to do. So now tomorrow we have a game and on Sunday we can keep on going. We want to use this time in Germany, so that’s why we did it like this today.”
