Sheyi Ojo feels he has more to offer in the remainder of Liverpool’s pre-season programme, but accepts a loan move could be on the cards in order to get regular game time during 2018-19.

The winger, who has had temporary spells with Wigan Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham in recent campaigns, has figured in all five of the Reds’ summer friendlies so far.

Eager to seize his opportunities, Ojo has turned in a series of lively performances from the right flank, while also getting on the scoresheet in the 3-2 win at Tranmere Rovers.

However, Jürgen Klopp confirmed on Tuesday it was likely Liverpool would trim their squad before the close of the transfer window – and the 21-year-old knows it’s possible a fourth loan move could be on the cards.

If that does transpire to be the case, Ojo will seek inspiration from the story of one of his senior colleagues within the squad.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com in Charlotte, he said: “I am just trying to focus on the present by training well, staying fit and healthy and trying to do the best I can in these games I’m given. We’ve got to just see what happens after it.

“I feel like there comes a time when in order to make the next step, maybe you have to go out on loan and get a different experience. If that happens for me, then I’ll be looking to keep improving and come back stronger.

“There are loads of different examples, but Mo [Salah] is probably the best example – when he was at Chelsea, he went out on loan and now look at him. He’s done really well and is a star for our team. I’ll be looking follow in those sort of footsteps and take it as it comes.”

In the meantime, Ojo will continue to try and make the most of the appearances he’s granted in Liverpool’s remaining four pre-season friendlies.

“There’s definitely more for me to do, of course, but the main thing is to listen to the manager’s instructions and try and be a threat whenever I can, and score or assist for the team,” he explains.

“I wasn’t able to do that in the last game, I was a little bit unlucky not to score, but if I get the opportunity in the next game then that’s the main aim – to try and finish off the chances and help the team.

“The five games I’ve had so far have helped with the fitness, but the main thing is getting back together as a group and listening to what the manager says. I think the five games have gone well.”

While Ojo and his teammates are putting in the hard graft during double training sessions and matches during Liverpool’s United States tour, off the pitch club staff work around the clock to ensure the players are in the best possible condition each time they take to the field.

The winger said: “It’s amazing, to be honest. The food we have, everything we have is top quality and I am grateful for that. I know how hard the staff work in order for us to have the best possibility to train and play well.

“It’s down to us as players to be grateful and make the most of it in these games, training and the rest of the season.

“The staff are really good at keeping things organised and helping us, knowing what we’re doing next. For us, it’s about listening to what they’re saying and whether it’s the warm-up, lunch or training, to be 100 per cent in it.

“These tours are really important to get the team and the bond stronger so we’re ready for the season.”
