Liverpool FC Women are delighted to announce the signing of Marie Höbinger.

The 22-year midfielder joins the Reds from FC Zurich in Switzerland, where she enjoyed a double in 2021-22 before finishing league runners-up last season. She had previously played three seasons with Turbine Potsdam in the Frauen-Bundesliga in Germany.

A creative midfielder, Höbinger is coming off her most successful goalscoring season with nine strikes in 15 games, and in January she was nominated for the AXA Women’s Super League Player of the Season.

She joins LFC Women manager Matt Beard’s squad firmly established in the Austrian women’s national team and played in the Women’s Euros in England last summer.

“I’m so happy to be here,” Höbinger told Liverpoolfc.com. “I love English football, men’s and women’s, so I always wanted to play in the WSL. I probably never even imagined playing for Liverpool.

“When I spoke to Matt and Russ [Fraser, managing director] for the first time they gave me a really good feeling. It felt so natural talking to them and Matt gave me new perspectives as a player.

“After the call I just had such a great feeling, I could see myself enjoying football here.”

Höbinger moved to Germany at the age of just 13 to further her football ambitions and believes the switch to Merseyside is the perfect one at this stage of her career.

“I really like the vision of the club and I am also a really ambitious player so I’m really excited for what’s to come,” said the team’s new No.14. “Football in this country is huge, the Euros were amazing, every stadium with the crowd was amazing.”

Beard is excited to have secured his sixth signing of the summer transfer window and said: “We’re delighted Marie’s chosen to come to Liverpool. We’re really excited by her talent.

“She’s a box-to-box midfield player, she’s aggressive, she’s quick, she’s athletic and we’re really excited by her potential.”
