The Reds’ second and final friendly in America ended in an emphatic 6-0 win over Metropolitan Conference Allstars at Harvard University on Monday.
Courtney Sweetman-Kirk scored four times to take her tally to five in two games Stateside, with Rinsola Babajide netting twice.
Liverpoolfc.com caught up with Jepson post-match in Boston. Read on for a summary of what the LFC Women boss had to say…
On the 6-0 victory…
It’s a fantastic result, but the process of getting that result was really, really key for us. It’s good to boost your confidence and come out and perform like that, find the back of the net like we did tonight and [while] keeping a clean sheet as well, so credit to the ‘keepers and everybody out of possession to do that.
On Sweetman-Kirk…
She could certainly find the back of the net tonight, couldn’t she?! That’s good because it’s the second week of pre-season and just boosts her confidence and hopefully she can take that into the next week leading into the WSL when it kicks off.
On Babajide…
It’s good to see other players get on the scoresheet. What I say to Rinse is it’s consistency: keep finding the back of the net, keep creating goals, keep scoring them. Hopefully she can continue that in weeks to come.
On the return from injury of Jess Clarke, who came off the bench to make her first appearance since January…
It’s great to see Jess on the pitch and you can see that everything’s just pace and power, even her recovery runs to get in were great. Her hitting the post after coming on was great to see and I’m looking forward now to giving her more and more minutes as the weeks progress.
On playing at Harvard…
These are beautiful facilities. We’re really grateful to Harvard for letting us use them. It’s a great place to finish off our tour.
On the tour as a whole…
I think it’s physically tested us, mentally tested us with the early starts and all the visits we’ve done at commercial events and visiting the community sessions that have been going on. It’s been a non-stop schedule so that mentally tests you anyway to keep going and then work hard in training [which] physically tested us. In our first game against Cleveland it was difficult because we were at times up against a back six. So there’s been some fantastic challenges on and off the pitch which we’re very grateful of and hopefully now that’ll put us in good stead and push us forwards for the future.
