Henderson 'feeling good' after injury nightmare
Jordan Henderson is raring to go ahead of the new season after the Liverpool captain endured an injury-ravaged 2015-16.
Henderson was restricted to 23 starts in all competitions for the Reds last term due to a combination of foot and knee problems.
The skipper sustained knee ligament damage during the first leg of Liverpool’s Europa League tie with Borussia Dortmund in April and made his return as a substitute on the final day of the Premier League season at West Bromwich Albion.
Henderson has since represented England at Euro 2016 and feels fit and ready to lead Jürgen Klopp’s side into the new campaign, with the opening-weekend trip to Arsenal now less than three weeks away.
The 26-year-old told Liverpoolfc.com: “My foot is feeling good. I’ve been injured for most of last season but, over the course of the summer, I’ve trained with England, played one game at [the Euros], and then afterwards done a little bit of my own [training].
“I’ve come in and I feel very good - I feel probably the best I’ve felt in a long time. So hopefully that can continue and I can have a good pre-season and get even fitter.”
When asked whether last season was the toughest of his career, Henderson replied: “For me personally, definitely, purely for injuries.
“The type of injuries I had were injuries where I was trying to get through it, even when I was playing I was trying to just play and maybe sometimes I shouldn’t have.
“Overall, it was a very disappointing season for me personally and a tough one.”
However, the Reds No.14 believes the fact he was forced to miss large chunks of last term has enabled him to return to pre-season training with a spring in his step.
“I was injured for quite a lot of the season, I was out for a lot, so I felt as if I didn’t really need a rest,” Henderson continued.
“I tried to do a little bit and just build up to make sure that when I came back I was feeling good, and so far that’s working well.”
