Divock Origi believes he can play a major role for Liverpool this season after marking his return to action with a goal against AC Milan.

The Belgian, making his first appearance of pre-season after his involvement at Euro 2016, looked sharp after coming on a half-time substitute in Santa Clara as the Reds sealed a well-deserved win when Roberto Firmino slid home with 17 minutes remaining.

Origi is delighted to be back with his teammates and outlined his determination to build on an impressive debut campaign at Anfield in 2016-17.

“I’m very happy to be back on the pitch. As a team we’re enjoying our first minutes, we were very hungry for this game and we worked a lot in training. We enjoyed the game and we won so I’m very happy about it,” the 21-year-old told Liverpoolfc.com.

“It can be [a big season for me]. I still have to work a lot and there’s a lot of room for improvement, but I try to learn day to day and we’re learning as a team also.

“I can feel the confidence from everyone and can improve and enjoy my game.

“Year by year I’m improving and I’m still young. The most important thing is to make steps and last year I had some good moments, so I want to learn and become more consistent to help the team even more and become an important player in the team.”

When asked about the work Jürgen Klopp is overseeing in pre-season, Origi added: “We’ve worked a lot on the tactical things and you can see that the team has one idea and that is very important in football.

“We have to work on things but we have time and everyone is smiling and has a good attitude so that’s the most important thing."
