Ryan Kent believes hard work on the training ground and good performances for Liverpool U21s will lead to more appearances for Jürgen Klopp’s first team in the future.

The winger was the star of the show in the U21s' 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the home of Chester FC on Monday evening.

Kent opened the scoring in the first half from a free-kick, which he took with his weaker left foot in order to confuse the opposition goalkeeper, before Jerome Sinclair later sealed the win.

The 19-year-old was recalled from a loan spell at League One side Coventry City earlier this month and made his debut for the Reds in the 2-2 draw away to Exeter City in the FA Cup.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after last night’s game Kent said: “This is the stage for all the first-team staff to look at us, so we can make that next opportunity happen.

“We need to show a work ethic and emphasis to our defending which the manager is asking of us at the moment. Hopefully the offensive things will come.

“I've got to keep a steady mindset and keep working each day, showing my ability and hopefully making the first team in the future.

“It's an amazing experience to be up there with the first team [at Melwood] every day and to make my debut was a dream come true. I'm hoping to add more appearances to my game.”

Kent revealed he had been planning his clever goal for a while, and added that he is keen to get on the scoresheet more often from now on.

He explained: “Goals are definitely something I need to add to my game. I was out on loan and I only managed to get one goal, I had plenty of chances as well.

“I scored a goal the other week against Southampton and I tried to do the same thing. I tried to wrong-foot the keeper and I managed to do that. He had to think with his feet and his hands and didn't manage to get himself prepared in time before I hit the ball.

“The second half opened up a little more, I enjoyed it and I was unlucky not to score [again]. I'm happy to get the goal and the three points in the end.”
