Liverpool's Academy played host to very special guests on Monday when they had a visit from the RAF Men's Development squad.

The squad, which is made up by an elite group of U23 players from within the Royal Air Force, visited the complex to take part in a training session led by U18s manager Neil Critchley and they were put through their paces ahead of their competitive Inter Service fixtures later this month.

The visitors were also given the opportunity to hear from Academy backroom staff on topics such as sports psychology, match analysis and sports science.

The tables will be turned later this month when the LFC U18s squad visit RAF Cosford, swapping their football kit for military fatigues to take part in two days of RAF recruit training.

The visit will give the players a glimpse into the life of an RAF recruit, displaying the range of specialist skills, dedication and commitment required for a career in the RAF.

Visits of this nature ensure Academy players understand and respect the work of different individuals within the community, and it also gives them tangible real world experience outside football.

As well as being a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, the club works to support the Armed Forces community through the Liverpool FC Foundation’s successful military veterans programme, which helps to re-engage ex-military service men and women with physical activity and recapture the spirit of service and comradeship.
