Klopp: Why the LFC Foundation is so important
Jürgen Klopp has revealed why the work of the Liverpool FC Foundation is so important to him.
A newly-launched video, available to watch free above, highlights the crucial work of the club’s official charity as the Liverpool manager explains just why its efforts are so valuable to the community.
The inaugural LFC Foundation Day is set to take place this Sunday, December 13, for the Anfield clash with West Bromwich Albion - the last home game before Christmas.
A number of initiatives and activities will be taking place across the club and local community in order to help raise funds.
All money raised will support the foundation’s community programmes, including its men’s health programme, military veterans programme, and football development programmes such as Respect 4 All, which provides sporting activity for young people and adults with severe physical and neurological impairments.
On the day, the LFC Foundation will host free skills and drills challenges and coaching sessions at Anfield Sports and Community Centre, and a blind penalty shootout against a Liverpool legend in the Family Park on Anfield Road.
To celebrate the launch of LFC Foundation Day, a number of incredible money-can’t-buy items will go under the virtual hammer as part of an online auction hosted by charitystars.com, including your chance to have dinner with Klopp.
The boss said: “What responsibility does a football club have? Every football club needs to win matches, that’s no secret. But there has to be more to it than that.
“We all know football is not the most important thing in life. The only thing you really have to do is care for each other, it’s your responsibility. You can give back some of the things you got from all of the people around you. As a football club it’s important you don’t forget this.
“Young people are our future and they need help.
“Of course, we needed help when we were young and we all know that nobody is born and has the same chances, and we need to try that little bit more so that everybody has the same.
“Everything we could do, everything we have the power for, we should try.
“Our players here know where they come from and they are really good lads, and everybody should know that not only are they professional football players but they are human beings behind the shirt.
“If we can help by only being there and only showing our respect then it’s easy to do and so football is very important.
“All these things we are doing without a bigger reason behind, we don’t want to get something back, so we are the people who give back so everybody who is with us can get our help.”
Andrea Cooper, head of the LFC Foundation, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the level of support we have received from Jürgen and also the first-team players.
“It is fantastic that our manager is encouraging the squad to give back to the community and get behind the club’s official charity.”
