McAteer coaches youngsters at Mumbai school
Jason McAteer recently visited a school in Mumbai as part of Standard Chartered's Water Sanitation Hygiene Education (WASHE) programme - which supports under-privileged children in India.
The former Liverpool midfielder and Republic of Ireland international put 20 pupils from the WASHE Shankarvadi school through their paces with a vigorous warm-up before they were split up to play in fiercely-contested football matches.
The children, aged between eight and 10 years old, were delighted to be trained in the basics of the game by McAteer and their excitement drew spectators from all around.
And afterwards, he spoke about the eye-opening opportunity to meet and coach the kids on March 12.
McAteer said: "It was a fantastic experience. The kids were really happy even though they didn't have a lot of playing and training equipment.
"It really brings you back down to earth. You should think how lucky you are. It puts things into perspective. It was a pleasure to be part of such a worthy scheme."
