LFC Foundation College to host open training session
Liverpool FC Foundation College are holding an open training session at Anfield Sport Community Centre (ASCC) today (June 1) at 5pm BST.
Youngsters currently in Year 11 and 12 are welcome to attend and this is a fantastic opportunity for you to follow in the footsteps of former St Francis Assissi student, Callum Hanlon, who was recently selected for the prestigious Dallas Cup.
Hanlon started his footballing life attending the Premier League Kicks coaching programme delivered by LFC Foundation.
LFC Foundation's Kicks co-ordinator Tony Cosgrove said: "We have hundreds of youngsters attending our Kicks programme across the city with the aim of engaging them and helping them with their football.
“When we met Callum it was clear he was focused and knew he wanted to develop with football, and as he was coming to the end of Year 11 we thought it would be a perfect progression for him to enrol at the LFC Foundation College when he left school.
"We mentioned the college to him and he was really interested. He attended the open evening and duly impressed the staff at the college, and he was offered a place.
"It is a big success story for us and for him to go on and be selected a play in the Dallas Cup, one of the top international youth tournaments in the world is just amazing.“
Reflecting on his progress, Hanlon said: "To play in the Dallas Cup was an unbelievable experience. We faced top teams from all of the world and it gave me a real insight into different tactics and formations.
"It really opened my eyes as to what is on offer for us around the world.
"I'm now really thinking about going for a USA Scholarship but I know I'm going to have to study hard in college and increase my training in the gym and keep progressing on the training field.
"Hopefully this is just the start of what is to come. The Kicks Programme really helped me on this path and I’m determined to achieve my goals.”
The LFC Foundation College open training session is open to students currently in year 11 and year 12.
