Liam Smith invites LFC Foundation to pre-fight workout
WBO light-middleweight champion Liam Smith invited children from the Liverpool FC Foundation to attend his public pre-fight workout at Liverpool One on Tuesday.
Smith, who hails from Kirkdale, held the training session ahead of his title defence against Serbia's Predrag Radosevic at the Echo Arena on Saturday, June 4.
Participants from the LFC Foundation’s Premier League 4 Sport boxing programme were specially invited as a reward for their conscientious effort and attendance over the last year.
Smith said: “The LFC Foundation do an amazing job in helping people from all walks of life live an active lifestyle and long may it continue. It was brilliant seeing so many young faces involved with the LFC Foundation at my public workout.
“Boxing is thriving in Liverpool at the moment and it’s really pleasing to see a new generation of boxers coming through the ranks. There’s no better crowd to fight in front of then my hometown supporters, I’m a proud Liverpudlian and I’ll make sure it’s another unforgettable night for this great city on Saturday.”
Following a Q&A session with the children, the boxer also donated a pair of signed gloves to the Foundation to raise funds for its partnerships and community programmes.
Andrea Cooper, head of the LFC Foundation, added: “It is brilliant for those who participate in boxing in the Premier League 4 Sports programme to be able to watch such a fantastic role model as Liam at close quarters ahead of a world title fight.
“Liam is a world champion who has developed from a grassroots level and can act as a source of inspiration for those involved with the Premier League 4 Sport Programme.
“We would like to thank Liam for his kind and generous donation. The gloves will most definitely help raise funds to deliver our community programmes and support local partnerships.”
