Riise: Anfield return a dream come true
John Arne Riise reflected on a 'dream come true' after he played at Anfield again during the Liverpool Legends' thrilling 4-3 win over their Real Madrid counterparts on Saturday.
Riise became a firm fans' favourite during his seven-year stay with the Reds between 2001 and 2008, and the Norwegian was handed a place in the Legends' starting line-up by player-manager Ian Rush.
Goals from Michael Owen, John Aldridge, Robbie Fowler and Steven Gerrard secured a home victory in front of a sell-out crowd at Anfield, with all proceeds from the match going to the LFC Foundation.
And Riise insisted that nothing would have stopped him being part of an unforgettable day.
"Even if I had something scheduled I would cancel it to come here. It's my club, my home," the 2005 Champions League winner told Liverpoolfc.com.
"It was amazing to come back, with a full stadium. It's a dream come true and it's been a long time since I've been here to play in front of a full crowd."
Riise was part of a 23-man Liverpool Legends squad for the charity game, and the former left-back revealed that his teammates were all delighted to be back at their old stomping ground.
"We came out before the game and looked at the stadium and the Main Stand, it's just brilliant," he added. "It's always special to come back here.
"The reception all the players got today was amazing. We were buzzing in the dressing room after the game."
