31st Hillsborough anniversary
Wednesday April 15 is the 31st anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, in which 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives.
The Hillsborough Family Support Group (HFSG) had planned to hold their final memorial service at Anfield to mark the anniversary but this was unfortunately postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although fans won’t be able to attend a service at Anfield this week to show their respect, we would invite all of our supporters around the world to come together in spirit to remember the 96, their families, survivors and everyone impacted by the disaster.
Speaking about the postponement of the final memorial service, Margaret Aspinall, chair of the HFSG, said: “On behalf of the HFSG, I would like to thank everyone for their understanding in this matter. We hope to provide an update in the near future on a rescheduled date for the service.
“I would also ask that you join us in our prayers on April 15 to remember the 96 and keep the families and everyone who has been affected in your thoughts at this difficult time.”
On Wednesday April 15, players and club staff will observe a minute’s silence in memory of the 96. Club flags will also be flown at half-mast across the club throughout the day.
