Gerard Houllier was honoured with poignant tributes during Liverpool's Premier League meeting with Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

The former Reds manager, who guided the club to six trophies over the course of more than 300 games in charge, sadly passed away aged 73 earlier this week.

Houllier led his side to an unprecedented treble during the 2000-01 season as they lifted the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup, as well as securing Champions League qualification.

But his legacy at Liverpool goes beyond the silverware, with the Frenchman a key figure in modernising the club and bringing through home-grown talent.

With 2,000 supporters able to attend the fixture against Spurs, a range of flags and banners acknowledged their deep affection for Houllier.

A period of applause was also held ahead of kick-off as fans, players and staff on both sides paid respects to Houllier.
