Liverpool Football Club has been recognised as a leader in online matchday innovation after scooping the Best Use of Technology prize at the Football Business Awards 2021.

The club was crowned winner of the accolade after impressing judges with the launch of its cutting-edge Match Centre platform.

Working with Monterosa - an industry-leading, real-time engagement innovator in interactive experiences - the club developed Match Centre to give fans access to an array of interactive and game experiences, including line-up and score predictors, polls, trivia, votes, live audio commentary, videos and social coverage, all supported by a live text commentary feed from each Liverpool first-team match.

What started as a new way to keep fans engaged during lockdown periods soon became a fun and dynamic approach to keep interaction and the passion going when supporters returned to the stadiums, before, during and after matches.

Drew Crisp, senior vice-president of digital at Liverpool FC, said: "We are committed and driven to constantly be finding new and better ways to interact with our fanbase wherever they are in the world. We always need to be doing our utmost to make sure we take advantage of the opportunities that tech gives us so that we can engage every day and satisfy fans' appetite for everything LFC.

"Our Match Centre platform is the perfect way to bring our supporters closer to the club on matchday and really immerse them in the entire experience, from the build-up to the live match commentary. I am extremely proud to see that our work has been recognised by such a prestigious industry award."

Tom McDonell, co-founder and CEO at Monterosa, said: "It's a great honour to be recognised for innovation and a privilege to work with the inspiring team at Liverpool Football Club. This is just the start of an exciting interactive journey and we're looking forward to developing the best possible experiences for fans around the world."
