U18s make surprise visit to homeless shelter
Liverpool U18s made a surprise visit to the Missionaries of Charity Liverpool-based homeless shelter this week as part of a long-standing relationship with the centre.
Members of Steven Gerrard’s squad came together to meet with residents and help clean up alongside Academy staff.
The city centre base, which forms part of the Missionaries of Charity order founded by Mother Teresa of Calcutta, offers shelter to rough sleepers in Liverpool.
As well as spending time talking with the homeless residents and volunteers, the youngsters donated cleaning equipment and items of clothing.
On the visit, U18s midfielder Curtis Jones said: “It is a real honour for the boys to visit the shelter. Speaking to the residents was a real eye-opener and will hopefully help the lads to realise how lucky we all are.
“It was a really humbling experience and shows the importance of the volunteers that work in the shelter to provide somewhere warm for the homeless to stay.”
