LFC legends and coaches support Special Olympics Ireland
Liverpool FC community coaches joined forces with Special Olympics Ireland at Larkview FC in Dublin on Friday to deliver a series of skill sessions with the help of club legends Ian Rush and Jason McAteer.
Thirty-four athletes from six different Special Olympics clubs in Ireland took part in the session donated by club partner Joie, enjoying drills and small-sided games.
Special Olympics Ireland is a sports organisation that provides year-round training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with an intellectual disability. The organisation offers opportunities to develop physical fitness, share skills, and build friendships with families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Anfield legends Rush and McAteer joined in the fun, too, chatting with the participants, posing for photographs, and even going between the posts to face penalties. The club’s official mascot, Mighty Red, was also on hand to give out goodies and cheer on the athletes.
Rush said: “Jason and I really enjoyed meeting all the participants and getting involved in coaching sessions with such inspiring youngsters.
“LFC coaches always provide professional, high-quality coaching and ensure that all those involved have fun.”
