Jose Enrique believes Liverpool will have had a 'very good' start to 2011-12 if they beat Everton in Saturday's lunch-time kick-off.

The Reds have gained 10 points from a possible 18 so far despite being handed hazardous trips to Arsenal, Stoke and Tottenham early in the calendar.

They have also progressed through two rounds of the Carling Cup, and our new left-back thinks victory in the 216th Merseyside derby would send everyone into the international break feeling content.

"It was really important we got three points in the last game," Enrique told Liverpoolfc.tv. "We had some games that were not really good, like Stoke and Tottenham, but if we get another three points this weekend it can be a very good start for us.

"I know some people were a little bit scared (after defeats to Stoke and Tottenham) but it's normal. We've got some new players here like me, and we have to play more games together, but it's a nice squad and we have some good players here.

"It's just about playing our football, not caring whether we're away or at home. If we play our football I think we can beat anyone."

Enrique will experience his first all-Merseyside clash having previously enjoyed battles between former club Newcastle and their local rivals Sunderland.

And he claims there won't be any derby day nerves when he steps onto the Goodison turf.

"I don't think I'll be nervous," he said. "I'm really quiet when I play. Before the game, because you're playing for points, you want to win and you maybe get a little bit nervous. But when I play I forget this because I'm trying to do my best.

"Always I pray before the match to God - that's all.

"Wherever you are, these games are special. They are really nice to play in but I know it's hard because we're away and normally in these games players give 100 per cent - here they give 200 per cent.

"You win three points and for the fans it's a more important game."
