Pepe Reina insists there are still many reasons to be upbeat despite the frustration of dropping two points during Wednesday night's goalless draw with Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.

The Spanish stopper claims Kenny Dalglish's charges did more than enough to win the game and was full of praise for fellow custodian Ali Al-Habsi who had an inspired night for the Latics.

"It was another one of those games when we deserved the three points but it feels like two points dropped," Reina told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Their goalkeeper Al-Habsi was brilliant and he made some great saves, including the penalty. As long as we keep creating these chances one of these days we will punish someone and get a lot of goals."

The game also saw Reina keep a third successive clean sheet and he was quick to point out the contribution of the whole team as a factor in making the defence a formidable barrier to break down.

"We didn't lose the game and we kept a clean sheet which is always positive," he said.

"We have to take the positives and that is the team is defending very well and we can take a lot of confidence from that."

Liverpool's No.25 is now hoping the Reds can get back to winning ways and put on a show for their own supporters at Anfield against Blackburn Rovers on Boxing Day.

He said: "We now have two home games in a row starting with Blackburn and we need to take maximum points if possible.

"We know Blackburn aren't in a nice situation at the moment and because of that it will be difficult with them fighting for our lives, and we will have to do our best.

"I enjoy the Boxing Day match, especially to play at home because our fans are with us and we want to win the game for them."

In the absence from the starting XI of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher, the Spanish custodian also reflected on being given the captain's armband by Kenny Dalglish.

He added: "Everybody knows the captains of Liverpool are Stevie G and Jamie Carragher but in their absence it is a pleasure and an honour for me."
