Kuyt: It's back to business
Dirk Kuyt admits the Liverpool squad are still on a high following their Carling Cup final glory – but is adamant everyone within the camp is fully focused on trying to bolster their top-four prospects against Arsenal on Saturday.
Following the international break, Kuyt and many of his teammates returned to Melwood on Thursday for the first time following the Reds' Wembley success last Sunday.
And the Holland forward revealed there was a real buzz in the changing room as the players reflected upon ending Liverpool's six-year wait for a trophy.
Kuyt told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I'm still feeling very good. I've been in London for a couple of days because obviously we played the final on Sunday and then on Wednesday I played the friendly against England.
"It was great to be there, but it's even better to come back. I've still got a great feeling, not only me but all of the team. It gave us a great buzz and everyone is looking forward to the weekend.
"The mood coming back to Melwood was obviously very good. We were all in touch by phone and texts, but it's good to see each other again and the mood in the dressing room is very good.
"We were all delighted to get the trophy, we were all desperate to win one and hopefully we can win one more."
While Kuyt and his teammates afforded themselves some time to reflect upon their cup final win, it was soon back to business as they took to the Melwood training pitches in preparation for tomorrow's lunchtime clash with Arsenal.
Victory over the Gunners would reduce the gap to four points and leave the Reds with a game in hand on the Londoners - and Kuyt maintains no-one within the camp will be taking their eye off the ball as Kenny Dalglish's men chase further success on two fronts.
"We'll take all the positives from the final, but it was a few days ago and you have to move on," he said. "You're never satisfied if you're playing for this club - you always want to get more. That's what we want and we're all looking forward to the game.
"We are still alive in two competitions - the FA Cup and the race for fourth spot. If we win on Saturday we will be right back in it, so we know what we have to do."
He added: "The team have shown confidence over the last couple of weeks and months. Everyone can see we are progressing in every game we play.
"To win a trophy means a lot for the football club, for the fans and also for the players. Hopefully we can take this with us into the next games and the rest of the season. Hopefully we can take another three points against Arsenal."
