God set for English return
Ian Holloway is relishing the prospect of securing the services of Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler.
The Scouser, who the Kop christened 'God', trained with Holloway's Blackpool yesterday and the delighted manager is convinced he is edging closer to the full fitness that would secure him a permanent deal at the club.
The 36-year-old will train with the Championship outfit again today as Holloway and his staff weigh-up their options and the Tangerines boss admitted that he was a little bowled-over when Fowler first arrived.
"It's the first time I've asked a trialist for an autograph," said Holloway. "Has he got some quality? Can he find little pockets? Can he score a goal? Yes he can.
"I think he's still hungry and he wants to play; he's got undoubted quality. It might sound outrageous to some but it sounds great to me. I don't think he's a mile off playing."
Fowler's last appearance in English football came for Blackburn in December 2008.
A prolific striker, he cemented his place as a Liverpool legend during the nine professional years he spent at the club by scoring 236 goals.
His name still sits in fourth place on the all-time Premier League goalscorers chart having scored 163 in the league.
Holloway added: "It's brilliant to have someone like Robbie at the club. He looked terrific in training and I don't think he's far away from being fully fit.
"The addition of Robbie into my squad would be quite incredible. I did what we normally do (when trying to sign players) and I think he liked it. I think it might suit him."
Holloway's delight was matched by Blackpool player Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who took to Twitter to announce that he had been 'training with God'.
