As Merseyside prepares for FA Cup fever this Saturday RunLiverpool are inviting Liverpool fans to show their colours in support of charity as Reds and Blues go head to head in the annual big heart 5K.

The race taking place on FA Cup final day, Saturday, May 5, as part of the new 'Festival of Running,' with 10,000 happy feet taking part over two days, and Kop hero Alan Kennedy is scheduled to take part.

An amazing eight races will create a fast and furious weekend, as Liverpool and Everton supporters compete in a competitive fun run.

The Big Heart 5K was introduced to the RunLiverpool portfolio four years ago. Everyone taking part will run in either a red t-shirt or a blue t-shirt (provided as part of the entry fee) and their finish place contributes to an overall points total. Whoever gets the smallest total is the winner!

The Reds have had the edge over the Blues in this event over the last three years with the Blues winning the first Big Heart 5K back in 2008.

Over the last four years the event has supported a number of Everton and Liverpool based charities including The Marina Dalglish Appeal and Jamie Carragher's 23 Foundation.

Reds Race ambassador Alan Kennedy urges fans to take part and said: "It's an exciting week for football fans and this is another opportunity for both sides to come together and show their colours.

"Whatever happens this Saturday I urge both sides of the city to come together for this event, even those who are first time runners it's a great day to get involved."

The Big Heart 5K has been hosted in Walton Hall Park since 2008 and this year will be an integral part of the new Festival of Running event which will see eight running events staged in Sefton Park over two days.
