Downing was busy going forward and the winger notched up as many strikes on goal as hat-trick hero, Luis Suarez, with five.

He also fired in four crosses and was responsible for one shot assist.

Of Suarez's five efforts on goal, three were on target and all three of them flew past Ruddy into the back of the net. Four of his shots came from inside the penalty area. One was from outside and that came from 50 yards out on 82 minutes and was a spectacular lob that clinched him his hat-trick.
