Your Fan of the Season revealed
Lifelong Liverpool supporter Raymond Gandy has been named as the first ever Standard Chartered LFC Fan of the Season for 2011-12.
The Runcorn-based Red has been a proud and passionate follower of the club for over 80 years and scooped the prestigious accolade after being voted for by fans in an online poll.
Raymond has supported Liverpool since 1943 when he attended his first match – a war-time derby with Everton. His all-time Anfield idol is legendary forward Billy Liddell.
Winner of the Standard Chartered Fan of the Month award for March, his dedication to the LFC cause over many decades originally won the backing of our esteemed judging panel before Kopites selected him as the overall Fan of the Season.
Nominated by his friend Liam Nevin and described as 'a truly remarkable fellow', Raymond collected his trophy from Liverpool FC Managing Director Ian Ayre and Reds legend John Barnes prior to Tuesday's 4-1 victory over Chelsea at Anfield.
"I feel very privileged and humbled - it's fantastic," said a delighted Raymond upon receiving the prize.
"I only found out a week ago when I got a phone call from the club when I was on a bus and I'm still in shock!
"The fact Liverpool fans voted for me to win this award makes it extra special."
As well as picking up the gleaming trophy, Raymond also received two hospitality tickets for the Chelsea game and two nights in a hotel.
Everyone at Liverpool Football Club and Standard Chartered would like to congratulate Raymond on his award and we look forward to continuing to welcome him to Anfield for many more seasons to come.
