Most Exciting PL Games: 87
We continue our brand new summer feature of Liverpool's 100 Most Exciting Premier League Games with No.87 and a stand-out performance from Alberto Aquilani.
LFC's Most Exciting PL Game No.87: March 15, 2010. Liverpool 4-1 Portsmouth.
In a season punctuated by ups and downs, this game was one in which Liverpool oozed the title-winning potential they had demonstrated in their previous, record-breaking Premier League campaign.
Alberto Aquilani arrived in the summer of 2009 but injury had deprived him of the opportunity to show the quality that had garnered him such a fine reputation in Italy.
But making only his third start alongside Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard, the man from Rome positively shone against Portsmouth at Anfield as the Reds tore the opposition apart in the space of six minutes in the first half.
Torres made it 1-0 on 26 minutes before Ryan Babel doubled Liverpool's advantage. Four minutes later Aquilani capped a sweeping move from the home side, turning the ball past Jamie Ashdown after a sumptuous Torres back-heel was followed by a Gerrard dummy.
Torres added the fourth with 13 minutes remaining before Nadir Belhadj grabbed a late consolation goal.
Each weeknight during the summer we'll reveal four more from our countdown from 6pm BST on LFC TV. 11-minute highlights will then be available on LFC TV Online the following morning. LFC TV is available FREE to view on SKY channel 434 and Virgin channel 544 (as part of the XL pack).
