The Reds had already won the Worthington Cup on penalties, snatched the FA Cup from Arsenal in the dying embers of a fairly one-sided affair at Cardiff and completed an historic treble with a win in the Uefa Cup final four days later.

But even after all that, the 2000-01 season was not done and dusted by the last game. A place in the following year's Champions League was yet to be secured and a win at the Valley against Alan Curbishley's Charlton was far from a formality.

And for 45 minutes of the match, the Liverpool players appeared physically and mentally drained by their efforts in Cardiff and Dortmund. Charlton on the other hand, who had lost just twice at the Valley in the league that season, were first to nearly every ball.

But the highlight of the game undoubtedly swung the tie in Liverpool's favour. Ten minutes into the second half, after a corner from Gary McAllister was half-cleared by Sasa Ilic and Robbie Fowler, with his back to goal, executed the perfect overhead kick to loop the ball over the 'keeper and into the top far corner of the net.

That opened the floodgates for Liverpool and Danny Murphy pounced to double their lead on 61 minutes before another from Fowler and a Michael Owen strike completed the rout.

Each weeknight during the summer we'll reveal four more from our countdown from 6pm BST on LFC TV. 11-minute highlights will then be available on LFC TV Online the following morning. LFC TV is available FREE to view on SKY channel 434 and Virgin channel 544 (as part of the XL pack).
