LFC backs Neurosupport
Kop legend David Fairclough paid a special visit to the Goals Soccer Centre in Netherton as a fun day of football was staged as part of a Neurological support awareness day.
The Neurosupport centre in Liverpool celebrates their 20th anniversary this year and they showcased some of the outstanding work they do to help people in need.
A football tournament featuring teams from the whole of Merseyside, aged between U10 and U15, was staged and a great day was had by all.
Liverpool FC's community team showed their support to the charity and brought down their U12 Disability Counts team to play in one of the tournaments.
Anfield hero Fairclough gave his blessing for one of the trophies to be named after and in honour of his late wife Jan, and there was also a trophy named after Kop legend Ray Kennedy.
Skelmersdale United Youth were the proud winners of the Jan Fairclough trophy.
Chris Wall from Neuro support, said: "The day was a great success, particularly as we had a number of parents present who have children with neurological conditions and did not know about us, so we were able to inform them of the support available, which was the whole purpose of the day.
"We want to help as many people as we can in our community. We want to let people know about the work we do.
"In our community there are many people who may be struggling themselves or have a member of their family who has been struck down by one of these conditions. We can support them and try and give people a better quality of life.
"We are quite unique and there is no other centre quite like ours. We serve the whole of the UK, not just Liverpool."
Fairclough told Liverpoolfc.tv: "This is a great way of raising awareness as not a lot of people know what the Neurosupport centre does.
"The centre is unique to the UK. It is an issue and it's important to get the word out there just what the centre can provide."
