Jordan Henderson believes his first year at Liverpool has helped mould him into a better player – but insists he's still got much to learn before he'll be satisfied with his all-round game.

The 22-year-old has made 51 appearances for the Reds since moving to Anfield from Sunderland last summer, however he's aiming to develop further by continuing to put in hard work on the Melwood training pitches.

Henderson said: "It's been a whirlwind 12 months, but I have really enjoyed it and learned a lot of things on the way.

"I am still learning and if I can carry on doing that then hopefully the next 12 months and beyond will be even better."

He added: "I am starting to feel a bit older with the young lads coming in but I have still got a long way to go and a lot to learn.

"I think I will just keep working hard, keep my head down and hopefully I can become a better player."

Meanwhile, Henderson paid tribute to Liverpool teammate Jonjo Shelvey after his sparkling performance for England U21s against Azerbaijan last week.

The midfielder scored one and made the other as the Young Lions ran out 2-0 winners in Baku.

"Jonjo was very good," said Henderson. "He played just off the striker and got on the ball a lot. He made some good passes and played a big part in both of the goals, setting up the first and scoring near the end.

"I thought he was brilliant. He's been like that throughout pre-season at Liverpool, so I hope he can carry on like that."
