Fabio Borini admits Sunday's meeting with Manchester United will be the biggest match of his career - but the fixture only inspires excitement for the Italian.

During his one-year spell with former club Roma, the 21-year-old scored twice against Inter Milan and was on target in the Rome derby against Lazio.

But he described Liverpool against the Red Devils as 'an even bigger game' and revealed how much he is looking forward to the Barclays Premier League encounter at Anfield.

"These are the games that every player wants to play," Borini told Liverpoolfc.com.

"For the crowd, for the atmosphere, for the result that you want to get and for the actual football you're playing on the pitch because it's something that you never feel again probably.

"I think nobody understands what you're feeling during that game. I know for Liverpool fans and for Liverpool as a club, playing against United is a very, very big game and it's very important."

Asked to compare the passion surrounding Sunday's game with those he has previously experienced, Borini explained what makes this particular rivalry so important.

"It's different because Roma and Lazio play in the same stadium, which makes a little bit of difference," said the forward. "But I know probably here, Liverpool against Manchester United is an even bigger game, because it's at the top level as well."

Having made a handful of Premier League appearances for Chelsea, appeared in a play-off final for Swansea and featured regularly in Serie A for Roma, Borini has more experience than most players his age.

That could go some way to explaining why the Italian is feeling excitement about the upcoming clash, not nerves.

He revealed: "[I'm] not nervous, but there's a lot of excitement because I know it's a big game.

"All over Europe people will watch the game and my family will be in the stand. So it's excitement because as a footballer you always want to play in these games, it's what made you a footballer."

The Reds have yet to register a Premier League victory in four attempts so far this season, although performances have perhaps merited better, and Borini sees no lack of confidence around the dressing room.

"We always go onto the pitch full of confidence because we know what we can do," assured the No.29.

"We do it in training and we do it at the game, probably not every game for 90 minutes, but we can do that and we can improve a lot. It's a good level to start with because if you can improve, you can show the difference and see the difference."
