After a tough defeat to Manchester United on Sunday in the Barclays Premier League, Liverpool have the chance to bounce back as they get their League Cup defence under way at West Brom.

Former Reds coach Steve Clarke has had a fine start to his tenure at the Hawthorns with the Baggies currently sitting fourth in the Premier League after five games.

Brendan Rodgers will be without several members of his squad with Martin Kelly, Daniel Agger and Fabio Borini out injured and Jonjo Shelvey suspended. This could open up opportunities for some of the talented younger members of the squad, several of whom impressed in the 5-3 Europa League win over BSC Young Boys in Switzerland.

Rodgers has not been shy about giving the younger players a chance to shine and they have repaid his faith. Raheem Sterling has been one of the stars of the season so far and if he plays at on Wednesday night, he has the ability to cause problems for the West Brom backline.

His ability to beat full-backs and provide quality deliveries, or cut inside to drive at the middle of a defence makes him tough to close down. Although he has been more of a provider so far, his first competitive goal isn't far away and he's 3/1 with Paddy Power to score first against West Brom.

Another young attacking player who has impressed is Suso. The Spaniard looked good when he came on against Manchester United and may be in line for a start. He is 7/2 to score anytime in this game.

With Borini out, Luis Suarez is more likely to start this game and the Uruguayan is understandably the favourite to score first at 5/1.

Liverpool have on won 10 of their last 12 visits to the Hawthorns, making them statistically a very solid bet at 6/4. However, Clarke will point his players to the 3-0 win they enjoyed over the Reds on the opening day of the current season.

Rodgers, though, can use the same game to motivate his players to go there and get a more positive result.
