Celebs to conclude Hillsborough run
Seven runners raising money for hospitals in Liverpool and Sheffield will be joined by pop singer Melanie C, among other celebrities, when the 96-mile Hillsborough to Anfield run concludes on Saturday.
The challenge will start at Hillsborough Stadium on Thursday, April 4, and finish on Saturday afternoon when Dom Williams, Wesley Young, Scott Cunliffe, Chris Dale, Neil Mitchell, Earle Jackson and John Driscoll arrive at Anfield.
As well as paying tribute to the 96 Liverpool supporters who lost their lives at the tragedy in 1989, the run is aiming to generate funds on behalf of Alder Hey Children's Hospital and the Children's Hospital in Sheffield.
When the septet of runners reach the 96th and final mile of their journey, the Spice Girl will don her tracksuit and trainers as a show of support following three gruelling days for the participants.
The singer said: "Running 96 miles in three days is a phenomenal achievement and something I'm glad I've not done personally, but I'm pleased to be able to lend my support by crossing the finishing line with them."
Merseyside boxers David Price and Derry Mathews, DJ Spoony, former Everton midfielder Peter Reid and impressionist Darren Farley will also help the runners over the finish line.
Sue Roberts and Claire McGlone from the Hillsborough Family Support Group, plus Steve Kelly from the Hillsborough Justice Campaign will complete the journey under the Shankly Gates too.
The event first took place in 2012, when the participants ran 76 miles and raised £15,000 for the HFSG and HJC. The current running total for 2013 is more than £3,600.
